Synthetic Landscapes explores the creation of a speculative landscape
with sub-visible material. An installation created with the knowledge
of the ever-changing structures of the translucent textile used.
The synthetic landscape is a field created by nodes that cluster
together, defining the starting points and densities within. The
densities are made of action potentials taken from the highs and lows
of SEM images. Action potentials are changes in electrical charges
usually used to pass information between neurons in the brain. Here,
these potentials happen within the landscape where the densities
coalesce, letting us visualize them through a play of light and shadow.
When passing through the field of nodes, the growing peaks in
the textile create potentials for interaction. The interaction creates
a sublime combination of biology and technology through the
construction of spatial information. In turn, we become a specimen
within the field, entranced within the landscape.
